Volunteers Needed: Homes for our troops groundbreaking ceremony

On September 27, 2014 Dorn Homes will be sponsoring the Ground Breaking Ceremony for Homes for Our Troops in Prescott Valley. Homes for Our Troops has selected Dorn Homes as the local building partner to build a specially adapted home for a severely injured veteran, Army SGT Brian Roberts.

We have gained a lot of support from local businesses to assist in the building of this home, but there are many other volunteer opportunities available to everyone that would like to join us in supporting this wonderful cause.  

Opportunities Available for September 27 Groundbreaking Ceremony

Site set-up & Clean Up (7+ People) 

  • Come early and help setup for the ceremony and breakdown after the heroes’ lunch. Help clean up and place all trash in proper receptacle. Post HFOT Banner Set front end of event with podium, seating for speakers and family, p/a system if applicable

Recycling (3 People) 

  • Works in conjunction with those who are doing site clean up, but makes efforts to recycle any cans, bottles and/or paper goods that are found.

Shovel Decorating team (6+ People) – THIS IS DONE PRIOR TO EVENT AND BROUGHT TO EVENT BY 10AM

  • Ask for a donation of 6 shovels (Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart or a local building supply store) once acquired, have group help to decorate them in a patriotic theme. (Can be painted or decorated with ribbon)

Food & Beverages for the Heroes Lunch (8-10 People)

  • Group efforts to get donated, cook, maintain and set up food on the ceremony site. These people are also asked to serve food and run the donation area. Also necessary to make sure that the area near the food area stays clean.
  • Get donated and/or make beverages to be served with the Heroes lunch.

Registration (3-4 People)

  • Set up table with all applicable supplies
  • Ensure that as people walk up to the site they stop at the Registration Tent to sign in
  • All people who register receive a “goody bag”
  • Registrations can be done via the waiver or online at event site
  • If applicable t-shirt raffle done at event for preregistrations
  • Official event “counter” needed to give HFOT representative an accurate count of members

Bake sale team and sales people ( 3-10 people)- SET UP PRIOR TO EVENT AND BROUGHT TO EVENT BY 10AM

  • Bake and/or get bake items donated, wrap them and price them for our Groundbreaking bake sale. Will also need sales people to man the table, sell the items, tally profits afterwards and sign off with the COC. COC will bring cash, checks and Credit cards receipts back with them to the office.

Raffle coordination team leader and volunteers (3-10 people)

  • Work together to get 5-10 raffle items from local businesses to be raffles off at the Groundbreaking Heroes lunch.
  • Raffles tickets will be sold for 2 tickets for $5 or 5 for $10.00 at the groundbreaking ceremony and the drawing pulled during the Heroes lunch. Will also need sales people to man the table, sell the items, tally profits afterwards and sign off with the COC. COC will bring cash, checks and Credit cards receipts back with them to the office.

Fundraising Table (2-4 people)

  • Set up table with all applicable supplies
  • Take donations - tally afterwards and sign off with the COC. COC will bring cash, checks and Credit cards receipts back with them to the office.
  • Hand out American Flags
  • Answer any questions or direct them to the HFOT staff for further assistance 

Parking Coordinator and crew (2-4 people)

  • Arrive early at the morning of the ceremony; coordinate with the COC about where guests will park. Work with your team, wearing our florescent vests guide guest to the proper parking area. Will put out “Directional signage” , collect and throw away after the GB.
