Homes for Our Troops (HFOT), a national non-profit organization dedicated to serving the nation’s most severely injured Veterans, has selected local home builder, Dorn Homes as its Building Partner to coordinate the construction of a specially adapted home for Army SGT. Brian Roberts in Prescott Valley.
While serving his country in Afghanistan’s South Helmand Province, Army SGT. Brian Roberts sustained severe injuries including extensive pelvic, spinal cord and internal injuries. Army SGT. Brian Roberts looks forward to relocating to Prescott Valley with his wife and kids. The specially adapted home will help this Hero regain some of the freedom and independence he lost due to his injuries. The home will be provided mortgage-free, allowing him to focus on his recovery and rebuild his life.
As HFOT’s Building Partner, Dorn Homes will serve as the General Contractor for the project and will be in charge of permitting. In conjunction with Homes for Our Troops, the company will reach out to their best suppliers, subcontractors and local community members enlisting them to donate their materials and labor for the project. The home will be wheelchair accessible and feature over 150 state-of-the- art adaptations including a roll-in shower, pull-down cabinets and a roll-under sink in the kitchen. The new home is expected to break ground in September 2014.
“We are honored to help inspire the building community to come together and help give back to Army SGT. Brian Roberts, who has sacrificed so much for us,” says Dorn Homes. “We look forward to getting this project underway and can’t wait for the home to be ready so Army SGT. Brian Roberts and the family can move in and enjoy the benefits of a fully accessible home.”
