Moving can be a very stressful time for pets. Imagine how confusing the time leading up to a move, and the move itself, can be for your furry friends. When moving into a new home there are some things you can do while you are packing and making the move to make this transition easier for your pets.
It’s best to bring in the moving boxes as early as possible, and pack up slowly over time.
Try to keep pet beds, litter boxes, scratching posts, and toys in their spot up until the actual move. Have your pet’s items readily available to unpack right away when you arrive at your new home.
Keep it Quiet.
During the move, keep your pets in a quiet familiar room or at a friends house while all of your moving boxes are loaded onto the moving truck.
Plan Your Trip.
If your pet is not accustomed to riding in the car, it is wise to start taking your pet for shorter rides in the car. Make sure you plan your trip to allow for plenty of stops, so your pets can stretch their legs. Don’t forget to plot out pet friendly hotels along your route.
Moving into a new home is an exciting time for you… and your pets!
